At school we have been designing and painting our class mural. We brainstormed ideas about what makes Room 2 special. We decided on having the Kowhai tree, the 3 R's (respect, responsibility, resilience) learning and growing sign, a school bus, a rainbow and some flowers. It has been alot of hard work but we are excited about finishing it and putting it up on the fence. We are learning about acids and carbonates. Today we made Sherbet Fizz. First we put some icing sugar into a bowl. We tasted it. It tasted sweet. Next we put raro into the bowl and mixed it. We tasted it - it tasted really sweet. Then we put baking soda in. It was sour! Lastly we put some tartaric acid in. It was YUCK! It started to bubble in our mouths! Miss Parton brought some orange juice and we put it in the sherbet fizz. It bubbled and fizzed! The bubbling and fizzing was the carbon dioxide gas. What causes the fizzing in soft drinks?Room2http://www.blogger.com/profile/05985292418554921775noreply@blogger.com66tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4414923990426137956.post-59226468648640617382012-09-10T14:17:00.002+12:002012-09-10T14:17:46.281+12:00ART RAGE Week

Last week the whole school did art for 3 days. We did printmaking, we made korus from plaster of paris, we made god eyes in weaving, candle carving, mosaics and paper making. It was a lot of fun and hard work but we all really enjoyed it. We think our art work looks pretty amazing. On Friday we put on our play - The Gingerbread Man for the rest of the school. We have been reading and learning about the gingerbread man in class and loved it so much we decided to do a play. Miss Parton re-wrote the play so there was super heroes, fairies and transformers in it. We had a lot of fun! Miss Parton said we were all AMAZING!! We want to know when is our next play??
In class this week we are learning some gymnastics techniques. We have learnt how to land correctly, do a forward roll and jump over a low bench using our hands and landing with our feet together. It has been a lot of fun! Do you know what the landing position is called that Megan has landed in?
We have been reading the Gingerbread Man story in class and decided to make gingerbread. First we rubbed butter into the flour mixture, then we added egg. We mixed it altogether to form a dough. We left it in the fridge for half an hour before we rolled out the dough. We used cookie cutters to make our gingerbread man shapes and baked them in the oven for 10 minutes. They smelled YUM! We then decorated them with chocolate buttons and peddles and then we ate them for morning tea! We had a really fun morning! When can we make some more???
In maths at the moment we are learning about measurement. We are finding out what objects are taller and shorter. We used a ruler to measure different objects in the classroom. Leah and Micah measured Max. He was 34cm tall. What objects do you know are taller than Max?
Today we learnt about sugary drinks. Kim came to talk to us about the type of drinks that we should drink every day, drinks that we should drink sometimes and drinks that we should drink occasionally. We learnt that fruit drinks and coke have ALOT of sugar in them and that milk is great for building strong bones and teeth. We all agreed that tap water and milk should be our first choice drinks. Kim told us how much sugar was in drinks. How much sugar is in a can of coke??
Room2http://www.blogger.com/profile/05985292418554921775noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4414923990426137956.post-73743668431509616002012-06-18T19:28:00.000+12:002012-06-18T19:28:16.202+12:00Room 1 and 2 Assembly

Last Friday Room 1 and 2 hosted the school assembly. We performed our play called "Mrs Wishy-Washy". Everyone had a part to play - a cow, a dog, a duck, a pig, Mrs Wishy-Washy, a washing machine and a mud puddle. We used BIG voices and everyone laughed in the right places. Then some of us read aloud our stories we have been writing in class about seasons. After that we sang and did the actions to two of our favourite songs. We had alot of fun and Miss Parton and Mrs Marshall were REALLY proud of us!!Room2http://www.blogger.com/profile/05985292418554921775noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4414923990426137956.post-24703857427190131432012-06-12T08:02:00.000+12:002012-06-12T08:02:12.864+12:00The Coolest Football Festival!!
